New Legwarmers and Eco Kids

Although I am a beginner when it comes to knitting, I do so enjoy a beautiful skein of handspun, hand-dyed yarn.  I chose purple with both of my girls in mind, and when Ana discovered that I had decided to make leg warmers, she claimed them.  This has been my favorite project so far, and somewhere near the end of the first legwarmer, I finally got the hand of my knit and purl stictches.  I love those "A-ha moments," and these legwarmers were mine for knitting.  I'm just glad that my girl likes them just as much as I do!

Back At It

I have not knit in quite some time, and with the arrival of cooler weather, I really was feeling the desire to get back to it.  I nee lots of practice, and I know it, so I'm just planning on making as many simple projects as I can until I improve.  I have this beautiful purple hand-spun wool from Mountain Mud.  (I've posted the picture before on a Thank You Lord Wednesday). 

 

Well, I had big plans for this to be made into legwarmers for one of my daughters, and I'm sure it will in due time, but I bought the wrong needles, so another trip to the craft store is in order! In the meantime, I've decided to make a cowl from one of my favorite books: The Rhythm of Family: Discovering a Sense of Wonder through the Seasons.  This great book includes recipes, activities, and other great stuff to do with your family each month of the year.

The pattern is perfect, and the gauge is just right this time (last time I knit it too small).  However, I made the one with a pattern, and I twisted the thing around the needles several times, so some of the pattern is on one side, and some if it is on the other.  My daughters won't mind as they are playing in the snow, so I'm going to keep chugging along.

Works in Progress

I think I can speak for myself and my husband when I say we have a full house, full hearts, and a very full schedule.  God has been gracious to us though, and in the midst of projects, appointments, and general business, we have been given a sense of peace and clarity that can only come from God.  I'm still here, still knitting, still sewing, and still learning.  I'm thankful for this busy, chaotic, and even difficult time because it is in the storm that God shows us that He is with us...

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year...

Christmas shopping- Check.  Tree up- Check.  Tree decorated- Check.  Nativity out- Check.  Snowman in the yard- Check.  Lights on the front- Almost Check (!)  Advent wreath set up- Check. Christmas music played- Check. Kids crafts made for gifts- Check.  Fresh new Christmas clothes ready to be worn- Check.

All of these clear balls are hand painted favors from our wedding.

The checklist is growing, but I still have so much more to accomplish before the big day- the Advent calendar needs unpacked, gifts need made, gifts need wrapped, cookies need baked, Christmas stories need to be read, and two more holiday concerts need attended.  With all the hustle and bustle is a deep satisfaction.  It is good to look forward to time with family and the laughter of kids and the worshiping of God in thanksgiving of the birth of his Son.
