Still Eating Organic

Organic corn tomatoes edamame basil dill peppers garlic green beans squash zucchini cucumber

I was disappointed about the blurb I heard about organic food on the Today Show yesterday  They brought many of the facts to the table, but their choice was to say that organic food was found to be no less healthy.  They didn't describe what less healthy means in the study.  Are they only going by nutrition?  They also brought up that the studies analyzed were only done over a span of less than two years.  This does not help us to understand what effects a lifetime of consuming pesticides does.  They did say that organic foods are 30% less likely to have pesticide residue. For me that is the most important thing.  I will continue to eat organic and feed my family organic as much as possible.

What do you think?  Do you use any organic foods?  Which foods do you buy organic?

  1. We eat a decent amuount of organic and will continue to do so. I use the clean 15 list to help decide if the extra $$ is worht the benefits of organic. Dairy and meat are pretty much a given as is most produce. As for that report... I imagine either way the "nutritional value" is similar.. that is not what concerns me. Like you, the consuming of enormous amounts of pesticides is the big concern... as well as the growth hormones, antibiotics, etc in meat and animal products.

    1. I agree 100%. It's not always affordable to eat organic, but I don't see it as much of a choice either because like you said, growth hormones, antibiotics, pesticides- I don't want my kids consuming any of that in any amount... I recently found out (in the book- Silent Spring) that when we eat meat or animal products, we are consuming all of the pesticides that have already bio accumulated in those animal's bodies. Sometimes I buy hormone free meat, but ugh... I need to go all organic after reading that!
