Almost New

Have you ever read this book?

It's calledJoseph Had a Little Overcoatby Simms Taback, and I remember having this book read to me in grade school.  It tells of an old man whose coat wears out, and he makes it into a jacket.  It continues to be worn down and recycled.  It is fun to see all of the different uses that the man finds for his coat.  I loved this book as a child, and I love reading it to my girls now.

I had actually all but forgotten about this book when by chance we received it in the mail from the PJ Library. (I totally recommend that you click the link and sign up if you have young children.  Who wouldn't love getting FREE books and music in the mail for EACH of their children every month!?)  I then also came to find out that there are many lessons and activities based on this book. There is even a song in the back, and this website has a video of the song. I'll hopefully be trying some soon with Ana since this long forgotten book is once again a well loved favorite!

The other part that I love about this book that I almost forgot to mention is that it teaches kids to reuse things rather than to throw them away. It's a classic with a Caldecott medal AND it has an eco friendly message.  It doesn't get much better than that!

    1. They are adorable, and there are little postcards and newspapers laying around in the backgrounds that say cute things for the adults to read. I love it.

I have been reading the books that you recommended to me. So far I love them, and they have given me lots of great ideas!
