Favorite Fall Books

Fall is the season for cuddles, stories, and laughs.  Some of our favorite books have been displayed on the half-wall in the family room, and it reminds us to share some great stories during snack and lunch time.  Sometimes the stories lead to a craft or activity, and sometimes we just read them all, and sometimes one is enough.  It's fine to let the kids do the leading.  Here are some of the fall-themed book that we can't get enough of.

The Scarecrow's Dance

The Scarecrow's Dance talks of sacrificial love in a way that children can understand, and that right there is enough for me.  The illustrations and the prose are both top-notch.

From Seed to Pumpkin

This one explains the growing cycle while telling a fun story.  At the end are several activities and recipes, and we decided to try one on the spot.

The Pumpkin Gospel

The Pumpkin Gospel is easy enough for even the littlest ones, but the message is very pertinent.  It's a symbolic representation of the Gospel using the idea of carving a pumpkin.  Each page has a short rhyme and a one line scripture.  It is one of those great books where you can get silly and exaggerate the words to the children's' delight.

Happy Halloween, Snoopy!

Snoopy always gets a smile!  This is all about Snoopy's search for a costume for the big costume contest.  Our favorite part is when everyone cheers, "Horray for Snoopy!  Happy Halloween!"  Any book that gives you an excuse to raise your voice in the house is a sure-fire hit!
